Bear mtn looks like a real resort this year. It dumped all night and I awoke to an awful bright light in my eyes, damn bluebird conditions had me off the couch at 6am. Got some fun knee deep turns with Fields in the canyons. I love el niño but am quickly realizing that riding 50 days in a year is a lot of work.

Hey So Cal…All of you!

All of Southern California and our overloaded news inputs had alerted us that it was snowing in the Sierra’s, so it was no shocker to see this many people join us saturday morning. Mammoth did a piss poor job of opening chairs on time so everyone ended up at Canyon Lodge with a45 minute lift line. The sun was out and so was the crowd. We took 8 runs and hit the road, great day for a drive.

I’ll claim it. I’ll carry this day with me forever. We spent an entire afternoon planning in hopes this one day would come together. Phone calls to friends of friends, a back track mission for tickets, an afternoon in a hollywood coffee shop pondering if we could pull this off on our current budget and 6 pm on the dot we had it all sorted.

I’ve never made a chest deep turn, been so happy that I wore all my layers or had a friend that wouldn’t stop running at the end of the day. 7am-3pm we fucking shredded, hard. I love you Mammoth.

Worst Weather Yet

Mike and I executed an early morning strike mission on an early storm track only to find the only part of storm to arrive was the wind and cold. Mt Baldy has continued to disappoint me this year. We admitted defeat and put on chains 200 yards from the parking lot, 5 feet of visibility on the mtn, rain at the top of base, ice over powder, 60 mph winds, an old hobbit that wouldn’t let us borrow some cardboard to sit on iced over chairs on the ride back down. That was an early day.

Saturday showdown

The whole crew was out and prepared to send it. Amy twisted her knee, jess rode like an animal and Jesse discovered the corrugated pipes don’t slide so well. My body just hurt from becoming a wizard.

Jesse broke himself off and needed help doing everything from then on.

Niner Niner

Today I hit the 9 day mark. Feeling pretty good so far. Tomorrow I’ll be 1/5th of the way there. Conditions are deteriorating, but snow is on the way. It was snowing today and more is supposed to be here tomorrow. I’m praying for it. I know you are too. A few shots from the last few days. Awesome weather. Super fun to be able to get out with EM. She’s not too fond of the cold so I was happy she bundled up and charged it. Not a ton of action shots. I’ve been in and out of the mini park, (which rules), and mostly ripping around on the groomers and wall ramps. Excuse the few solo shots. And while I was at it I thought I’d rip a few from some Video since I can’t upload video.

Leash Law

We decided we had been cooped up inside for too long. Adam and I decided to stretch our legs for the afternoon at Suicide. This place is just fun. There are atleast 20 natural hips on the magical mile. We took lap after lap enjoying the backyard feel and light crowd. A older ski patrol woman stopped us and required we go buy leashes. After a 20 minute showdown of ski vs. snowboard run-away danger, we fashioned some out of twine. I witnessed atleast three kids (little guys) fall off the chair while trying to load with their parent. Another epic day in Vermont.

Park City 3 for 3

We got here Tuesday night about an hour too late to ride, but I went to pick up my pass so I could get busy first thing in the morning. I’m glad I did. The sun was out. The mini park was perfect. And my new headphones were working just how I was hoping they would. Since then, I’ve been able to get out for at least a couple hours every day bringing my grand total to 4 days. I even scored a little night session today which took me back to my roots at Alpine Valley. An old Landfill converted to a Ski Resort in S.E. Wisconsin where my brother and I spent hours upon hours riding at night and getting his truck un-stuck out of snowbanks we always tried to jump. By the way camera on my phone stopped working so I switched to my blackberry and it stopped working also. Taking out the heavy artillery tomorrow.

Only 46 more to go.
